Staying at Bali’s Hotel Tugu

June 30, 2018

In the heart of vibrant Canggu, just a few steps away from the beach, you’ll find Hotel Tugu – home to one of Indonesia’s largest collections of cultural antiquities and where you could rest your head for a few nights and fill your tummy with goodness.

Guests can choose from a range of suites and villas with either a view of the ocean, a private pool or even outdoor baths. Our Dedari Suite was a definite highlight during our stay and I could not recommend it enough. We opened the door, expecting to be in our suite, only to be surprised by our very own lush garden which had a pond filled with a variety of big and small, beautiful fish. A few steps down the stone path, we were at our suite’s actual front door which opened to a spacious bedroom which had been decorated with white and orange flowers. To our left, we had the bathroom which had a large bathtub with showerhead and windows which opened onto the fish pond. There were also what felt like endless lovely-smelling amenities which we thoroughly made use of and enjoyed during our stay. Back through the bedroom, the large glass doors opened onto a hanging chair and the best part about this suite… our very own splash pool. There really was no reason to leave our suite… besides for some delicious food.

At Hotel Tugu, guests can enjoy their breakfast anywhere on the property so we chose the Lotus pond. The breakfast menu consists of a selection of different egg dishes, healthy smoothie bowls, different pastries and of course, some Indonesian food. To make things simple for you, you really could not go wrong with their tasty eggs benedict and a fresh fruit juice.

In the late afternoon, guests can indulge in high tea with plenty of different teas to choose from as well as some light snacks. The selection changes daily but could consist of coconut treats, mini cakes, crispy, vegetable fritters and more.

For dinner, guests need to go no further than Tugu’s top floor where they will find Ji Terrace by the Sea. This is also where you’ll find most people enjoying some cocktails while watching the sun go down. Guests also have the choice of Ji at Bale Sutra on the ground floor which is set in an old family temple with dark wooden beams and red walls that are lined with Chinese paintings. There is only a slight variation in the menus so the choice is yours. Enjoy udon with prawn tempura, fresh ceviche, prawn flambé with yuzu butter or a variety of tasty sushi platters. To end your evening, pick from a list of sweet desserts such as a chocolate ball that melts in front of your eyes to reveal green tea ice cream, a nut crumble and fresh raspberries or pick a yummy coconut crème brûlée.

Hotel Tugu offers guests a wonderful Balinese escape with lush, tranquil gardens, hidden corners and welcoming staff which is perfect for those looking to relax and unwind while still being in the ideal location in the seaside town of Canggu.
